Mohsen Amini, Tom Callister & Adam Rhodes

Mohsen Amini2016 BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year, Mohsen Amini is very much at the forefront of concertina playing in Scotland. Picking up the concertina at the age of 10 and learning his music though Comhaltas, he went on to gain a high degree of success in the Fleadh Cheoil winning various All Britain titles before he was able to take his music to a professional level.

With guitarist Ali Turner and fiddler Neil Ewart, he started his first band, Muran, who won ‘Best Newcomer’ at the 2012 HebCelt Festival. Mohsen then later co-founded the trio Talisk, with Hayley Keenan and Craig Irving in November 2014 who, shortly after formation, won the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award, a Danny Kyle Award at Celtic Connections 2015, and were nominated at the MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards for 'Up and Coming Artists of the Year'. This gave Talisk the opportunity to play a live session on the BBC Radio 2 “Folk Show” with Mark Radcliffe and also to appear at many high profile folk festivals in the UK such as Cambridge, Cropredy & Towersey.

Following on from the success of Talisk he went on to launch his newest band, Ímar, in 2016 with Ryan Murphy (Mánran), Adam Brown (RURA), Tomas Callister (Barrule/Mec Lir) and Adam Rhodes (Barrule/Mec Lir). A mere two weeks later the band had managed to go viral, with 5,000 likes on their Facebook page and a video that has been viewed over 150,000 times. It looks like he is in for a very busy next few years...
