Newton Stewart Traditional Music Festival Association

On 15th November 2014 a meeting was called at the Crown Hotel by Nathon Jones to discuss the formation of a not-for-profit organisation charged with organising and delivering the Newton Stewart Traditional & Acoustic Music Festival - as it was known back then - as well as broader aims and objectives centred around encouraging, developing, supporting and promoting traditional music learning, composition, performance and music career development in Wigtownshire.

  • 2.1. to organise, facilitate and deliver music education through a range of workshops, talks, training days and other educational events and opportunities;

  • 2.2. to encourage, develop and support original music composition through annual music and song writing competitions;

  • 2.3. to provide performance opportunities for musicians who reside, or have resided, in Dumfries and Galloway;

  • 2.4. to organise, facilitate and deliver concerts and live music events throughout mid-Galloway;

  • 2.5. to organise and facilitate the annual Newton Stewart Traditional & Acoustic Music Festival;

A constitution was written and agreed and 9 members were elected to act as the management committee for the association:
