Jim Bainbridge Song Session

Join Jim Bainbridge and his wife Francie on Sunday 7th April at 2pm for an afternoon of songs from all genres and a chance for singers, accompanied or not to add to the welcoming musical tradition of The Vault Arts Centre!

Jim has been playing & singing with his old melodeon since his early days on Tyneside in the 60s, ably assisted by his wife Francie on the spoons! Touring folk clubs and festivals for years and making a living in the pubs and bars in the Mizen area of West Cork, Jim is always happiest in informal settings rather than concerts etc, and he has a fairly eclectic repertoire! There are only two rules for the song session: No electrics and no taking over. The event is free and all are welcome to stop by to sing a few tunes or to just come in for a listen!

The Vault bar is there to provide a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments for those attending! With a focus on supporting produce from Dumfries & Galloway, and more generally from across Scotland, you'll get a real Galloway, Scottish, experience during your visit. Draught beers from the fantastic Five Kingdoms Brewery at nearby Isle of Whithorn, plus the superb Hills & Harbour, Galloway Gin and 24/7 vodka from just up the road in Newton Stewart from the popular Crafty Distillery;  a 'must visit' when in Newton Stewart. There is also bottled beers from Borderlands Brewery in Langholm.  Not forgetting the outstanding, delicious, Bladnoch single malt whiskys from Bladnoch Distillery, another fantastic place to visit when in the region!

We are hugely grateful to Alastair and his team for their very generous support for this year's festival.

Workshops at this year's festival

With so many outstanding musicians in Newton Stewart this weekend it would be foolish not to take full advantage, and we've done just that with a superb programme of traditional music workshops which are included as part of the Weekend Pass ticket, £10 per adult or £Free for under 25s.

Highland dancing competition unable to go ahead this year

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the postponement of this year's Highland dancing competition at Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival. Continued funding cuts have meant some very difficult decisions have had to be made, however we do hope to bring this back in 2025.
