Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival has been shortlisted by the Year of Young People Project Team in voting for a Young People's Choices award. Voting opened on Monday 11th December and closes on Monday 18th December at 5pm. We need your support!
What is it?
Young People’s Choices (YPC) is a fund that a number of organisations and groups across D&G have submitted bids to over the last few months. These projects have been shortlisted by the Year of Young People Project Team and Newton Stewart & Minnigaff Traditional Music & Dance Festival has been selected as one of the West locality projects.
YPC is a participatory budgeting exercise with young people able to cast up to three votes in both the small (£500-£1000) and large (£1001-£5000) grant categories. Each category is split into East and West localities and to ensure an even distribution, £25,000 will be allocated to either side of the region.
Who can vote and how?
Young people aged 12 (or in S1) – 25 are able to vote through the Young Scot website. To be able to vote, young people will need their Young Scot card number, if this has been lost they are able to message the Year of Young People 2018 D&G Facebook page to receive a temporary number. Young people can vote on a PC, mobile or tablet and as the vote will be open 24/7, they are able to vote at home too.
Every secondary school in the region has been approached by Youth Services and it’s encouraged that Schools, Community Organisations and Youth Groups promote the vote as much as possible to ensure that young people have the opportunity to influence what FREE activities and projects exist in their own communities.
What is the project?
As many of you will already know, we have delivered free traditional music workshops to under 25's every year of the festival with some of the best known names in traditional music, award nominated and award winning musicians, tutoring in Wigtownshire as part of the festival programme. We are seeking funding support to allow us to continue that in 2018.
We are also introducing a programme of official Scottish Highland Dancing competitions next year which, if we're successful with Young People's Choices, will be free to enter for anyone under 25.
When is the vote?
The vote went live at 12 noon on Monday 11th December and will finish at 5pm on Monday, December 18th.
How to Vote?

When are the results?
The results will be announced on 12th January 2018 at the Year of Young People launch event in Annan.
