Where to camp next weekend?

Creebridge Caravan Park, Minnigaff

If you're planning on camping in either a tent, caravan or campervan for next weekend's festival then you'll want to know where's best in town, how close you'll be to venues and amenities and how to book.

Newton Stewart & Minnigaff are very well laid out for a festival event, with most venues and amenities being within a short walking distance of the town centre or, if you're staying on the outskirts of town, a short taxi journey.

Creebridge Caravan Park is just over the Creebridge in Minnigaff and is literally 500 yards from the Festival Marquee and Highland dancing venues.  You can pitch a tent, bring a touring caravan or campervan or hire one of the on-site static caravans.  It's the most centrally located caravan site and has plenty of space although we would recommend booking when it's the festival weekend.

Strathley's House Campsite is centrally located too, in Newton Stewart, and is a Camping and Caravanning Club Certificated Site (CS) in the grounds of a large Victorian house.  It is a small campsite with five pitches accepting caravans, motorhomes and tents so early booking is recommended.

Mains of Machermore Farm on the edge of Newton Stewart (1 mile) has five serviced pitches with hardstanding, grass area, water tap and grey water drain.  Five electric hook ups are also conveniently located for ease of use.  It also offers self-catering accommodation at 'The Dairy House' which sleeps 4.

Balloch O' Dee Campsite is around 7 miles from Newton Stewart that offers pitches for tents, caravan and camper hook ups and indoor accommodation.  It's a superb campsite with absolutely glorious views of the hills and surrounding countryside and is about a £12-£15 taxi journey from town. Recommended.

The Snap Inn Walkers Retreat offers pitches, meals and refreshments, hot shower and toilet, drying facilities, access to communications, baggage collection and drop off and transportation to the local town of Newton Stewart.

The main taxi company are McLeans Taxis (01671 404131) and you'll find that any journey within the town is priced at just £3.40.  Journey's outwith the town are also very reasonably priced.
